This is a bit of a fun roll. We’re still in the middle of winter, with minimal light and minimal inspiration for nice photographs, so I set myself a challenge. I equipped the 135mm f/3.5 lens, a focal length over 2.5 times that of my usual 50mm, and used this for nearly every frame on this roll. It took some getting used to! That’s effectively setting a 2.5x zoom and then going out to take photos — you quickly realize the shots you were considering at 50mm are simply impossible to take. Subjects that are further away, which to my eye were only ever background pieces, became the focus, which led to some interesting compositions I would not have thought of previously. On the other hand… the lens is pretty slow, and winter light was not conducive to nice photographs!

The Highlights

Let’s start with an experiment right away. This is at 135mm, yes, but even more it’s a panorama of three different images, hence why the aspect ratio is so odd. Zoom in and see the detail!
I liked the composition through the archway of trees, which only really came about from the 135mm focal length. I think the exposure could be better, I’ll try this again one day!
Rain on a handrail in the night. The bokeh was great, although I probably should have used a tripod.
Walking to school on a frosty morning.
Really happy with this. Steam billowing out from a pipe and shadows being cast on that same steam?! Crazy.

Miscellaneous

Not too happy with this trichrome, it’s just too overexposed in the highlights which is what I was really after.
