On this day we head to Lake Tekapo, spend the day walking about some stores, and spend a long time skipping stones.

Lake Pukaki

The road up to Tekapo has us pass Lake Pukaki again, this time from the south rather than the east. We stopped and took yet more photos, since the lake is just so stunning!

A little fellow joined us looking over the lake.

Making our way down to the lake shore (a treacherous journey!) paid off.
135mm from the water’s surface gives some beautiful results. This is a favorite of mine.

The group watching the lake. In the far distance is the end of the Mount Cook range

Lake Tekapo

Further up the road we finally reach our destination of the day. We started with a morning on the lake’s shore again, just because the sun was out and we have no idea how long that may last.

Lake Shore

Here’s a story in four parts; the happy beginning.
The approaching threat.
A confrontation.
And peaceful coexistence.
Katelyn is not impressed by the above story.

Rock stacks! Becca approved, Katelyn… approved?

Flying Fox

A flying fox! Time for some action shots. These were difficult with manual focus lenses, since the subjects (read; friends) kept changing distance.

Katelyn’s turn. She’s very pleased.
Utterly thrilled.
Totally ecstatic.
Okay, she really can’t help but smile a little.

Tekapo Dark Sky Project

Yes, just one photo from here, but the historic telescope was good enough to make an entire section.

Church of the Good Shepherd

Crossing the great bridge to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
I tried to get a nice shot of Katelyn, but Jack decided to get out of frame the long way.
Worth it.

Here’s a secret: the rocky hill in the foreground in hiding a whole group of tourists around the church! Got to work with what you’re given…

The Sheepdog Memorial

This statue serves as a memorial to all the hard-working sheepdogs that came to Mackenzie country. Now the dog gets to rest with a great view of the lake.

Motuariki Lookout

A longways down a gravel road, the Motuariki lookout has some lovely views of a tiny island in the middle of Lake Tekapo. We headed out there in the fading light of the day.
